“Sanctuary” Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, home to the precious seals, sea lions, and whales who have recently returned to these waters, thanks to years of dedicated preservation efforts. Wonderfully, these waters are once again a sanctuary for mating, feeding and breeding of marine life. We must continue in our efforts to keep the Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound a sanctuary. In “Sanctuary”, the deep ultramarine and purple clouds hover protectively over the waters, while the brilliant setting sun spills its light to the darkening sky. The dramatic tension of light to dark illustrates the troubled history of degradation of the marine environment to its emergent state of recovery and regeneration.
